The album's title track, "Guilty," took home the coveted Grammy Award for "Best Pop Vocal Performance, Duo or Group."

Shortly after its release, the original Guilty album was certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America with Platinum status following within two months. Guilty has gone on to be certified 5x Platinum, with sales exceeding five million copies in the U.S. and 12 million worldwide. BARBRA STREISAND RETURNS TO HOLLYWOOD BOWL..
TO PRESENT AWARD TO STEPHEN SONDHEIM AT A
CONCERT HONORING THE COMPOSER'S 75TH BIRTHDAY

Barbra Streisand and Warren Beatty cohosted a star-studded evening of Stephen Sondheim music at the Hollywood Bowl on Friday, July 8, an ASCAP-sponsored event honoring the esteemed composer and lyricist on his 75 birthday. Ms. Streisand, joined by Beatty and ASCAP President Marilyn Bergman, presented the culminating award to the composer, many of whose songs she has recorded. She was greeted, upon her introduction, with a standing ovation from the 18,000 person audience who then joined her in singing "Happy Birthday" to the evening's honoree.

Barbra Streisand had performed at the Hollywood Bowl on two previous occasions, a concert in 1963 opened by Dave Brubeck, with Ms. Streisand preceeding Sammy Davis Jr. and again in 1968, following the assasination of Dr. Martin Luther King, when she, Harry Belafonte, Bill Cosby and Herb Alpert headlined a fund-raiser concert for the Poor People's Campaign, which helped carry on the Rev. King's outreach to poor children.

PAIR TEAMED ON CLASSIC "GUILTY"

Nearly 25 years after their historic success with Barbra Streisand's Guilty album, the legendary singer will rejoin with Barry Gibb to work on a new album together. Mr. Gibb will again be writing and producing for the as-yet untitled project, scheduled for September release (the silver anniversary of Guilty) on Columbia Records.

Additionally, the title track "Guilty" and "What Kind Of Fool," both duets with Mr. Gibb, became Top 10 hits, with "Guilty" receiving the Grammy Award for "Best Pop Vocal performance, Duo or Group."

Mr. Gibb will compose a dozen new songs for the reunion album. (He composed all nine songs featured on Guilty). Recording will take place at his studio in Miami, FL and at Sony Pictures Studio in Culver City, California. Last year, the motion picture studio's historic recording facility was formally renamed The Barbra Streisand Scoring Stage.

Guilty is tied with Barbra Streisand's Greatest Hits Vol. 2,, A Christmas Album and Memories as the singer's best-selling albums to date, representing together 20 million of the over 71.5 million albums she has sold to date.

Last year Ms. Streisand made her first film appearance following an eight year absence from the screen. "Meet The Fockers," in which she stars with Ben Stiller, Robert DeNiro and Dustin Hoffman, has become the top-earning live action comedy in film history, earning over a half-billion dollars worldwide.

WINNERS SELECTED IN "MOVIE ALBUM" REVIEW CONTEST; EXCERPTS FEATURED IN NEW YORKER MAGAZINE AD

Linda Goldstone of Larkspur, California and Danny Gerstein of Portsmouth, New Hampshire have been selected winners of a national contest conducted by Sony Music Entertainment in which hundreds of fans submitted reviews of Barbra Streisand's "The Movie Album." Excerpt quotes from the winners' submissions will be featured alongside those from famed national critics Liz Smith and Joel Siegel in an ad appearing in the end-of-April issue of The New Yorker Magazine.

Streisand, who was not a judge in the contest, noted that, had she been, "I would not have been able to decide. Each entry was elegant and gracious and had true critical merit. I'm not in the habit of reading all of the media reviews, but the thoughts that were submitted - the thoughts of the people I make records for - were very meaningful to me and touched me deeply."

Peter Fletcher, Senior VP of Marketing for Sony Music, commented that "there was a flood of rave media reviews for this album, but we thought it would be fun to let the fans try their hand at it and to let the winners see their words in a major national publication."

The New Yorker ad celebrates the continuing success of "The Movie Album," which is already certified both Gold and Platinum, and the "Barbra, The Concert" DVD which debuted at #3 recently.

BARBRA'S CD DODGES DRUDGE SLUDGE

BARBRA STREISAND SURVIVED ANOTHER RIGHT-WING HOOK THIS WEEKEND

Conservative Internet gossip Matt Drudge posted a story Sunday that the liberal singer "may be stripped" of her Grammy nomination since her album was in stores two weeks after the deadline. The Movie Album, on which the 61-year-old performer sang "Smile" and other film songs in front of a 75-piece orchestra, was nominated in the Best Traditional Pop Vocal category. The CD was released to record stores Oct. 14 - after the Sept. 30 cutoff set by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS). Ironically, it was available on technology no one knows how to use better than Drudge: "The Movie Album was available as a full album commercially via download on www.BuyMusic.com as of Sept. 30th," Columbia Records spokeswoman Claire Mercuri told us. "This meets the Grammy eligibility." NARAS spokeswoman Diane Theriot said Sony's documentation was fully acceptable.

NARAS ISSUES STATEMENT VERIFYING STREISAND GRAMMY NOMINATION FOR "THE MOVIE ALBUM" AND REFUTING MATT DRUDGE AND CINDY ADAMS LIES

(Note: articles were run by columnists Matt Drudge [the Drudge Report] and Cindy Adams [the New York Post] stating that the National Association of Recording Arts and Sciences was considering disqualifying the Grammy nomination of Barbra Streisand's "The Movie Album," the articles asserting it was released too late. Adams flat-out claimed that such disqualification had taken place. There was, of course, no truth to their stories, and their charges were refuted by the National Association of Recording Sciences, which issued the following statement:)

"We are diligent about protecting the integrity of our process, especially prior to announcing nominations. According to our records, all of this year's nominations have met the necessary criteria, and we wish all of our nominees the best of luck."

BARBRA STREISAND'S "THE MOVIE ALBUM" NOMINATED FOR GRAMMY AWARD

Barbra Streisand's 60th album, "The Movie Album," has been nominated for a Grammy in the category of Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album. She has already received ten Grammy Awards, two of which were special honors. The first of her Grammy nominations and awards were in 1963 for "The Barbra Streisand Album." "The Movie Album was released in mid-October, charting at No. 4, marking five decades in which she has had an album premiere in the top five. The new CD, her 38th Grammy nomination, quickly became certified as her 49th Gold Record, a total exceeded only by Elvis Presley. The Grammy Awards will be held February 8, 2004. The latest Grammy nomination was announced within 24 hours of a court ruling denying her the right to be treated equally with thousands of other homeowners in the protection of her security and privacy (see attached story.) In this circumstance, Ms. Streisand commented, "You win some, you lose some."

BARBRA STREISAND LAUNCHES YEAR-LONG INTERNET AUCTION OF PROFESSIONAL AND PERSONAL BELONGINGS FOR CHARITY FUNDING

Barbra Streisand's first auction of personal and professional memorabilia will premiere October 31, 2003 on Ebay. For the Internet charity fundraiser, hundreds of famous or cherished effects from the artist's life and wardrobe will be placed on the block in a sale that will last a year but could be extended to as much as three years. Potential bidders can access the auction by hyperlink from the artist's BarbraStreisand.com website.

The initial item for sale will be one of the director/actor/singer's most publicized, recognized and career-pertinent outfits, the Arnold Scaasi-designed two piece evening pantsuit she wore to the 1969 Academy Awards at which she won her first Oscar, a Best Actress award for her performance in her debut motion picture, "Funny Girl."

"Each day a new item of Streisand memorabilia will be added and will be available for bidding for ten days, so that there will be ten items 'on the block' at all times," according to Darren Julien whose JulienEntertainment.com is producing the on-going auction.

"Ms. Streisand's only previous auctions of artifacts from her private collections were the Sothebys and Christies sales of some of her furniture and art," he noted, "and each of these established record prices for specific categories. While we have conducted other 'celebrity auctions,' we have observed that the greatest market demand has been for Barbra Streisand materiels and personal effects, and these have never before become available for auction."

Proceeds from the auction will benefit charities and causes served by The Streisand Foundation through which over $25,000,000 has been distributed/or raised for charitable efforts. The BarbraStreisand.com website is one of the Internet's most heavily trafficked personal sites, having recorded as much as one and a half million visitors in a single day.

In a special one hour/one guest program, Barbra Streisand will appear on Oprah Winfrey's top-rated "Oprah" October 14, as the talk show host celebrates the release that day of Ms. Streisand's new CD, "The Movie Album." Filmed in Chicago, the program provides an important first, a live performance by the artist of the Charlie Chaplin composition, "Smile." This is the song which Ms. Streisand recorded two days after the passing of her beloved dog, Sammy. It is the first time the artist has sung live on television since 1963. The Oprah guesting is only the third guest appearance of the past decade by Barbra Streisand on a talk show with a live audience, having done so previously with Oprah 7 years ago and on the Rosie O¹Donnell Show.

BARBRA STREISAND'S RECORDING OF CHAPLIN'S "SMILE" (FROM NEW CD, "THE MOVIE ALBUM") NAMED "OFFICIAL ANTHEM OF SPIRIT" BY HUMANE SOCIETY

(Reprinted with permission of the Humane Society of the United States)

(Washington, DC) The Humane Society of the United States and their Kindred Spirits program has named Barbra Streisand's recording of "Smile" as the Official Anthem of Spirit for those who have experienced the loss of their pet. Charlie Chaplin composed the song for his classic film, "Modern Times."

Everyone who has ever loved and lost a beloved pet knows how painful that loss can be. And superstar Barbra Streisand is no exception. She lost Sammy, a dog that had been her companion since 1994 when she bought him from a pet store two days before it was destroyed in the Northridge earthquake. Ironically, two days later, she recorded the song "Smile" for her new CD, "The Movie Album", which debuts October 14. And now the song has taken on a special meaning for the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS).

The leadership of HSUS concluded that "Smile," with its simple lyrics about recovering from heartbreak, could bring hope and consolation to pet owners faced with losing their animal friends. And the story behind Ms. Streisand's recording makes this particular rendition especially appropriate. In fact, The HSUS is sharing the story of Streisand, Sammy, and "Smile" to its members in a special newsletter and on their website, www.hsus.org. We appreciate her gracious permission for HSUS to acknowledge her performance of "Smile" in this manner.

When the HSUS learned about Sammy's death and the story behind "Smile," they contacted Ms. Streisand's representatives to offer their sympathies and for permission to mention the story in connection with their Kindred Spirits program, which accepts memorials in the names of deceased pets and people.

"We were so gratified that Ms. Streisand agreed to help us reach out to pet owners. People who are grieving take great consolation in knowing that others appreciate and share their feelings. To have Barbra Streisand be open about how it feels to lose a pet is a great validation, and we thank her," was stated by Humane Society executive, Rob Blizard.
