Facing the Wall at the MGM Grand
- Liz Smith, NY Post, January 6, 2000
"Barbra Streisand at the MGM Grand for
New Year's. Much hilarity as she was making one of her
golf-cart assisted treks through the corridors. Security
ordered, 'No one is to look at Barbra Streisand!'
Pedestrians turned their faces to the wall. Among them
Tommy Tune, who was in Vegas with his own New Year's show and
found the whole thing a riot! Tune worked with Streisand
in Hello, Dolly! back in 1969, but he still followed
orders."

THIS STORY IS NOT
TRUE IN ANY RESPECT! But we suppose the media had to find
something negative to say about a show that was an absolutely
sold-out success, breaking all of the records for a single concert
performance in the process and eliciting a string of standing
ovations from a delighted audience. No such silly demand of
deference to Ms. Streisand has ever been made at any time in her
career. In fact, Richard Sturm, President of MGM
Entertainment, called Ms. Smith to report that numerous members of
his staff remarked on Ms. Streisand's kindness to them and her
appreciation and response to their holiday greetings. Mr. Tune
also advised Ms. Smith that the reference to him was pure
fabrication and that nothing of the sort had happened. Ms.
Smith has assured Truth Alert that she plans to issue a retraction
and clarification.
